Finding the Rhythm of Grace

Has anyone else struggled with finding their routine in 2020? At first, we all hunkered down and now our schedules are filling up. Rhythms can be tricky in an ever-changing world and if you are crawling out of a wilderness season like me it can be even more complicated.

As women we have lots of responsibilities like work, family, cooking, laundry, nurturing, and so much more. Oh, and you have to eat low carb, work out, and keep up with your friends in your “free time.”

One thing I gave permission myself to do during quarantine (other than living in yoga pants) is to find a new routine.

As a multi-passionate free spirit I have always struggled to get all the areas of my life to run smoothly. If my work life was going great, I was probably dealing with a screaming toddler

If my boys were settled then I more than likely was eating Oreos and finishing their French fries at Chikfila. Which meant my dryer was shrinking my clothes, right?

For years, I felt like I would get one area in my life set but another one would fall apart. I’m either chubby and successful or fit and a failure. Can you relate? As the cool fall weather rolls in, I have realized that I need to let go of my expectations and embrace what is happening and not what I expected. I may not be mom of the year, a size 6, or the most successful author. But my boys love me, I can live in yoga pants anyway, and God has called me to write His message, not mine.

Some days my routine may consist of sleeping in, eating a pop tart for dinner, and writing until 2 am. And that’s ok! It doesn’t have to fit the mold or look like anyone else’s.

So, I want to invite you to my new rhythm of grace by choosing to enjoy the small things. Don’t stress if one area of your life seems “off.” But instead, choose to embrace the time you have to pursue the many things you love (even if it’s Oreos).

With Love,
