Today is a Gift: Live Like it!

I woke up pretty excited that today is my birthday. If you know me then you know that I celebrate for a week and I LOVE being with my family on my special day. Some people have looked at me crazy because I guess the norm is when you get older you are supposed to dread them. Call me weird, but I believe it's a gift to have the opportunity to wake up and celebrate God's blessing over the last year and expect the best for the year to come. The main reason I am crazy over my birthday is I wasn't supposed to live. When I was born on August 4th, 1982 I was 6 weeks early. My lungs weren't developed and things took a turn for the worse. The Doctors came and told my mother to come say goodbye to her blue eyed baby girl that she just birthed because I would not make it through the night. My Mom couldn't bear to walk in and see me so she went home empty armed with a heavy heart. When she prayed that night my mom chose NOT to barter with God. She wasn't going to ask God to make me live, or tell him she would do something for him if I didn't die.

She told God, "I will serve you whether you give her to me or take her away, I choose to trust you God." The next morning the doctors called my Mom to tell her that her little newborn daughter had a better night then expected.

I was a fighter from birth. The last 34 years I have had seasons of trusting God, seasons of doubt, seasons of depression, anxiety, and insecurities but for the last 4 years I have chosen to take my moms lead. I choose to serve God regardless of my circumstances or feelings and be a good steward of what he has blessed me with. The reality is we aren't promised tomorrow so lets be God's light today because we are ALIVE. Don't waste your minutes worrying about things that don't matter or probably won't come to pass anyway. Don't live your life through someone else's opinion of you. YOU ARE BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED!I love that HE has given me a platform to serve HIM and show people that through the good, bad, and ugly I choose to serve and trust. I pray you take my Mom's lead with me today.

In honor of my birthday I encourage you to serve others with me today and do a random act of kindness (pay for someone's meal, smile and make a compliment, hold the door open, or make a meal for someone). Today is a gift, live like it.Post in the comments the random act of kindness you can do and how you choose to be God's light today!
