White Noise
I remember as a little girl sometimes our tv would go out and it would be this LOUD white noise that would pierce my ears. The tv looked like white and black snow and immediately we would all be searching for the remote to turn it off. It made me cringe every time and it always made me mad because it interrupted what we were watching!Lets be honest, any distraction when you are trying to watch something you love is aggravating. My kids routine is turning the tv on first thing in the morning, but mine is quite different each day. One thing that remains the same regardless of what my day looks like is I always look at my phone and reply to texts and messages before my feet hit the ground. My boys are usually eating breakfast, getting ready for school, and they always have their legos and cars all over the floor from playing the night before! Most days are so full of phone calls, emails, meetings, work outs, errands, and kids activities that when I sit down to eat dinner I feel empty! Throughout those busy days many times I think, "I need to do my devotion and read my Bible," but then I will get another text, phone call or a sudden tantrum from my 3 year old that completely distracts me- WHITE NOISE!My days can be filled with so much white noise that I do not take the time to sit with the ONE who created me and designed my days. Before I know it it's 3 pm and my mind is spinning, my mouth is going a hundred miles an hour, but my heart feels lost. Busyness, activities, conversations, emails, are all WHITE NOISE that interrupts what is most important in our lives.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you, not for evil, but to give you a future and a hope."
As I ponder this scripture I have to get real with myself. God knows the plans HE has for me but do I? White noise so easily disrupts reading HIS Word or just sitting quietly to hear his "still small voice." Each day God has something specific for us, it may be to look up from your phone and smile at someone at the grocery store. It could be encouraging a friend that is hurting, maybe it's to accept a new job position.
But will you HEAR HIM? Or did the LOUD, ANNOYING, snowy black and white noise distract HIS VOICE?
DON'T MISS IT, God has given us opportunity all around us to encourage, give hope to others, or just to smile at someone. Define your white noise and make an effort to fill your heart with the ONE who beautifully designed you!
